As a glamour amateur photographer, should i buy a complete 300$ photo kit on ebay?
for example this one includes everything i need (i think)
cgi.ebay.ca/PHOTOGRAPHY-STUDIO-KIT-Lighting-Muslin-Backdrop-photo_W0QQitemZ370030245307QQihZ024QQcategoryZ3860QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
price is 327$ US
I looked at the auction, they are 160ws lights. Not much power through a light box or off a reflector. They should be okay for still shots though. It's a good price for so much stuff, a good start. You will want a more powerful flash unit, a 400 or 600 would be more useful. Don't go with incandescent or tungsten lights for glamor, they melt mere humans.
How hard is it to get into the field of fashion and glamour photography as a career?
because i'm honestly sort of looking into it. i'm just an amateur photographer in high school, but i actually could see myself doing this. i love both fashion and photography, and i think it would be awesome to combine the two of them in a career :] but i have a few questions, for one, how crowded is the field? because i know that photography in general has become crowded due to digital photography, but i wasn't sure how hard it had hit the fashion and glamour area...i would love to work for somewhere like vogue as a photographer [[or a designer, but thats another basket of bisuits entirely lol]] but thats just an example, as i would imagine vogue is like beyond impossibly to achieve :P lol. and 2. how hard is it to get started in that field?

and i have some photos of mine just to give you an example of what i've done already, but mind you i know i'm not the best photographer yet, i've taught myself everything i know about photography, and i've only got my 10mp point and shoot canon powershot a1000is to use...
heres 3 that i've done:

and i know those arent all that glamour type, but i havn't gotten to do a glamour type shoot with my friends yet :P

thsnks so much for your time and input! :D
hello there! :)
i'll try to give you as much info as you need. though im not a professional photographer, i know enough about the industry.
the fashion industry is already a super competitive industry to try to get into, whether it is in designing, or working at a magazine.

first of all, get to work with models! whether they are friends, or real models, get to learn and know the best angle to shoot models to make the clothes and model look beautiful. because, you're job as a fashion photographer is to really just make the clothing look beautiful.
i would recommend making a model mayhem account on www.modelmayhem.com its an awesome site where you can find models that are trying to create their portfolio and usually work for free. its especially great when you are trying to find people in your area.

make sure you have an impressive portfolio of your own work. also, master photoshop and, again, making the picture as beautiful as it can be. BUT dont overdo it with a whole bunch contrast and over-saturation.

finally, make sure you are ready to make a commitment. photography is an extremely expensive hobby. (800 dollars for a lens?! haha its crazy). i would buy a beginners SLR camera, for example, a nikon D60 or canon rebel xs.

but honestly, if you REALLY want it, go for it!!
having a dream is honestly the best thing because its something that you love that you are willing to work for. so good luck!!

hopefully i helped!

Need some photography advice?
Hi everyone... well recently I've ventured into the world of photography, I went out & bought a Canon Powershot A3100 digital camera, it's the most basic digital camera pretty much, however I want to start small and get used to a general camera/taking pictures of amateur models before I spend $700-$1,200 on a professional Canon or Nikon. So I've decided on glamour/costume type photography, I found 10 willing models (paid them of course) and they let me take their photos with my basic amateur digital camera, and some of the pictures turn out absolutely awesome, they look like a pro camera took them. However, in low/medium light, specifically with dark colors such as brown, black, and purple/red, I get fuzziness in the photos. I am not sure what this is called. I have tried to adjust the sharpness on my Canon editor but it doesn't seem to work. Anyway, I'm attaching a picture so you can see what I mean. This only seems to happen when I am taking photos in "Auto" mode. When it is in general "picture" mode, the photos will turn out great.
Is there anyway I can edit this to make them clear OR avoid in this in the "auto" feature in future shoots?

Here's the photo:

That's noise, a by-product of small sensor, high ISO and underexposure. There are programs to help reduce it in post processing. Noise Ninja is widely used, but there are others.

as a bit of an amateur/professional photographer myself, i have encountered this problem countless times! what you are experiencing is know as digital noise. it is caused by the low-light and the level of iso required to process the image. try adjusting the iso level on the camera (obviously you won't be able to adjust it in the "auto" setting)...i believe the higher the iso level, the more digital noise in the image. if you are indoors, try increasing the lights in your studio or using an external flash (this has seemed to help me and also helps soften unwanted harsh shadows). this is a problem i am still trying to conquer myself! good luck & happy shooting!

ps: i couldn't open your picture link to actually see your sample! don't know if it was just me or not!

What do you think of my photography skills?
I am a 13 year old amateur photographer, and although i do not own Photoshop, I do the best of my abilities on a website called sumopaint.com.

Id like your opinion on my photos:

So tell me your thought. Let me remind you, I'm 13.
You are better than I was when I was 13. What some people see as dark and out of focus others might see as moody and impressionistic. Google "Impressionist painters", you might just see a resemblance to your work. The second picture of the foot is my favorite along with the dark black and white with the stuffed animal.

At 13 I suggest you just shoot pictures any way you want. If you are shooting digital then you don't have any film or processing costs so try anything you can think of. The important thing is that you shoot what you want, the way you want and you learn from the failures and the successes.

Best of luck and life to you my young friend!

Pin-up photography shoot?
I'm an amateur photographer and I'm doing a pin-up photo shoot of my friend on Thursday in a studio. She has a good amount of clothing and props to use in the shoot and a pin-up illustration book to give us ideas. I do work in a portrait studio (at Sears), but I definitely don't have much experience in something like pin-up/glamour shoots. Anyone have any tips? Thanks!

PS I'm using my D40x with various lenses
The Pin up look on white has a shadowless look on white most of the times. Shoot with soft light umbrellas are OK soft boxes better even power at 45 deg. to subject and if you can pop the white background with two more light to blow off any detail. Should be one stop over the main exposure. Go slow work the pose and get ready for allot of post work in photo shop.
Need some advice about this?
Hey ppl... got another question.. recently I've ventured into photography. I've started off with the most basic digital camera there is and hired some willing amateur models. This is to just get comfortable with the camera and working with models. I've focused on swimsuit/glamour shots. Well this is all going somewhere. There is a method to madness so to speak. My intentions since August have to make my own personal site featuring my content. A pay site, of course. I did my first model shoot in August and so far have worked with 10 models. I have been wanting to get the site up for the past 2 months but keep running into obstacles, but thankfully the models are being patient.
Here's my issues..

1. During each photo shoot, I take normally 150-200 photos in various positions/attire. This is A LOT of photo editing I have to do so, I was thinking for the actual website and images4sale and clips4sale sites, I put up about 60 pictures total, like 10 photos in each gallery. Is this a good idea? Or should I put the whole set?

2. My photoshop is Adobe Lightroom, and its overwhelming me, some of the features/treatments I just can't understand. Is there a way to learn Lightroom? I just want my pictures to look good, is there a way it can manually do it for me?
I do hop you have your model releases sorted out.

1. There's very few sites that publish large sets. But you can if you weork is good and consistant.

2. Get a book or some training vids. If your studio setup is good you can do the same adjustment easily on bulk

1. post only the best images, posting all the bad ones makes you and the models look bad, they are unlikely to sell anyway

2. the pictures should look good out of the camera, you can do a "batch process" and have all the images processed the sam at the press of a button - using auto features like - auto levels, using manual features like adding saturation and or contrast

to learn photoshop or lightroom try the tutorials on youtube, or night school or community college or something, i did 2 hours every wenesday night for six months at a night school and with a tutor to learn and i have along way to go still, its wonderful
